AN ANALYSIS OF READABILITY LEVEL OF READING MATERIAL IN ENGLISH TEXTBOOK FOR FIRST GRADE OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Predicting readability level of reading texts can help the teachers to match with student’s grade. The appropriate text is expected ease students in comprehending material. This research focused on English material found textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris for first grade Senior High School Published by Curriculum and Books Center, Research Development Agency, Ministry Education Culture. study attempts find out whether materials are or not terms target students. used descriptive quantitative design. object First Grade published 2013. consists fifteen chapters which contained kinds such as dialogue texts. researcher only focuses analyzing materials. There three genre this book, they descriptive, recount narrative. data were collected using document analysis. In calculating level, employed Flesch Reading Ease (FRE) formula. results showed that there 9 textbook. From those 3 texts, 4 2 narrative According analysis formula, Fairly Easy Difficult level. average, (57,3). Based theory it tenth students.Keyword: Readability Material, Textbook.
